When the Cakery Bakery opened in St. Louis, Missouri, St. Louisans let out a collective, sugary squeal of delight. Since the specialty bakery's launch in 2005, they have been providing custom cakes, cookies, and cupcakes to St. Louis' most discriminating dessert fans. In July 2007, Cakery owner Ericka Robertson Frank, and business partner Nicole Panepinto, opened The Cupcakery, The Cakery's younger, cupcake-focused sibling.
Siblings are a thing to be celebrated as far as we're concerned. In June of 2008, Ericka's sister Meredith Layton and her husband Scott opened a Cupcakery of their own in Knoxville, Tennessee. Big sister Meredith, who is a licensed Speech Therapist, may not have Ericka's baking history (little sis started baking when she was only 12), but what she lacked in experience she made up for with entrepreneurial spirit. One of Meredith's first business endeavors included opening a "disco café," where she convinced a very young Ericka that being the "lighting engineer" (otherwise described as standing in the dark quickly turning the lights on an off) was the disco's "most important job." Fortunately for both sisters, this most recent venture has been a bit more successful.
The team at the Knoxville Cupcakery location is excited to be providing their made-from-scratch buttercream and super-moist original recipe cupcakes to area cupcake connoisseurs.
